COMPOSITIONS

At the heart of my compositions is a dialogue with the natural world, using recorded sounds as the foundation for finely crafted works that resonate with both nature and myself.

Each piece is inspired by nature either using small ideas of rhythm and texture or the recorded sounds of nature, be it the rustling of leaves, the whisper of a breeze, or the distant call of wildlife. These recordings are then woven into intricate musical tapestries, creating a symbiotic relationship between the organic and the crafted.

Through this process, I aim to bridge the gap between human creativity and the natural environment, producing works that are as much a celebration of nature’s beauty as they are a reflection of my artistic vision.

REFLECTIONS AND RIPPLES

A new composition for cello and nature. Immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of nature with my unique musical composition, inspired by the mesmerizing reflections and ripples on a serene lake in the Lake District. Performed by the talented cellist David Williamson, this piece blends the rich, emotive tones of the cello with a carefully curated palette of nature sounds recorded by myself during my trip. Adding depth and texture, my wind synth soundscapes flow seamlessly, evoking the organic, unstructured essence of the natural world. This piece invites you to let go of expectations and simply experience sound as it exists—free, fluid, and ever-changing, like nature itself. Specially mixed for headphones - Close your eyes and let my immersive piece give you space to reflect.

LOSS - FOR FIVE FLUTES AND A BEACH

As I listened to the waves on the beach in September, I found inspiration in their gentle rhythm. I recorded the waves on that day and used it in a composition for five flutes. The musical phrases are placed amongst the waves, allowing for the pulse to be set by nature.

EARTH SONG

A piece written for the Gaia installation. Just wondering what song or songs would the earth sing.

WATER LILY

Inspired by the traditional Japanese Shakuhachi, which is sometimes used in Buddhist meditation practices, I created a unique musical piece specifically for the western flute. This composition employs special techniques designed to closely mimic the distinct and ethereal sounds of the Shakuhachi. Additionally, the water lily serves as a powerful symbol of new life and beauty emerging from the depths of still waters, representing transformation and renewal within the music.
